From the Desk of the Executive Director
Kathy Strong-Twohig

The snow has finally melted-and that means it is Building Season! Volunteers here at the Habitat for Humanity office are amused by my reference to the changing of the seasons as "Building Season and Non- Building Season." This gauges in my book just how busy I will expect to be along with the workings of the many committees and the board of directors.

Mark your calendars and unpack those nailing aprons as we begin the 2008 building season. Plans are underway for two houses and Groundbreaking for the first will take place on May 3rd for the Home Builders Blitz.

Our second house will be going up on the corner of 21st and Ellis and Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 17th from 11 a.m. to Noon. This house build will be a traditional 18 to 21 week build and we are looking for volunteers, Crew Leaders, Site Hosts and groups to take on a build day of a Tuesday or Saturday.

Remember, you do not have to have experience, just enthusiasm to get out and meet others who share your passion to give back to the community.

WHAT'S HAPPENING!

ReStore receives grant to purchase delivery / donation pick up truck

The staff and Board of Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County wish to thank the Fond du Lac Area Foundation for the grant received, and an added donation from the Tool Box Ministry, which allowed us to purchase a 15-foot box truck for use in our recently opened ReStore. We are now able to pick up the donations from both individuals and businesses throughout our community and include the delivery of items purchased in the ReStore.

The ReStore is open to the public on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drop off of donations are accepted during store hours or by appointment by calling 920-921-6623.

I am a single mom of an eight year old son, Collin. He has taught me how to enjoy life, no matter how hard it gets. Collin is very excited to start building our house. He is fascinated with trucks and can't wait for excavation to begin and see all the excitement!

Volunteer of the Quarter
Kay Conrad

A native of Indiana, I have lived in Fond du Lac for 36 years. I came to FDL to take a job as head of the Reference Dept. at the FDL Public Library. I always enjoyed my job, even as it changed tremendously through the years because of computers. I retired a year ago, and have especially liked setting my own schedule when volunteering with HFH. The mission of HFH has always appealed to me and I wanted to become involved. I am happy to use my computer experience as a volunteer, but hope to work on construction also. FDL has been a good place for me, and I am glad that I can start giving back to the community.
