Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County holds informational public meetings in August at the Covenant United Methodist Church of Fond du Lac located at 20 N. Marr Street. (Please enter through the Marr Street entrance and follow the signs to the Parlor upstairs). Child care will be provided. These meetings provide information about the Habitat for Humanity program, answer questions and provide applications for eligible families. Habitat’s mission is to build affordable housing in partnership with people in need in our community.

Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County is a volunteer based organization that works in partnership with volunteers and empowers families in need to build simple affordable housing in our community. Habitat homes are built with a contribution of hundreds of "sweat equity” labor hours on the part of the homeowner. In addition these decent but modest homes are financed with affordable, no-interest mortgages. Habitat of FDL is celebrating its 11th building anniversary, just completed its 13th house and is beginning the 14th house for partnering families. “Over 1100 volunteers were a part of this building process in our community”, stated Terry Tomkowiak, Chair of the Building Committee; “These volunteers have logged over 3,000 hours this year alone”.

To be eligible for a Habitat house, the family must have been living or working in Fond du Lac County for at least one year, have had a steady source of income for two years and not claimed bankruptcy in the last two years. Family selection is based on need, ability to pay a no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner in the building of their home.

Habitat for Humanity wants to eliminate poverty housing for people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds. Attending this informational meeting can be the first step towards healthy and safe housing for a local family. Attendance is a must at one of the information meetings to receive an application as we are not able to mail them out. Child care will be provided and an interpreter will be available upon request.

What is Habitat?

Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Our purpose is to build homes with families and sell the homes at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home. Selection is based on need, ability to repay a no-interest loan and willingness to partner. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with God’s people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow into all that God intended.

Putting Faith into Action

Habitat homes are built with a contribution of hundreds of “Sweat Equity” labor hours on the part of the homeowners. By investing themselves in the building process, home-owners gain self-reliance, self-esteem and new skills.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must have been living or working in Fond du Lac County for at least one year and have had a steady source of income for two years.

Habitat’s ministry is based on the conviction that Christian discipleship must be lived out in practical ways that manifest the love of Jesus Christ. Christ’s love for us in demonstrated by the ways we love and care for one another. 1John 3:18 tells us that “Our love must not be just words; it must be true love which shows itself in action.” Habitat brings people together by making housing afford-able for everyone.

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. Policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.
