Michelle Hagen has been a single mother for three years and has wanted to provide a house and a stable future for her daughters for some time. After several rent increases and the possible sale of her rental home, Michelle decided to apply for home ownership with   Habitat for Humanity. And while Habitat’s generous “helping hand up” helps with Michelle’s financial limitations, she appreciates the volunteer element of Habitat and how working together can help build her daughters’ confidence. “Being chosen for a Habitat house is a blessing from the Lord”, says Michelle, and she believes God’s hand has been involved throughout the entire process. Michelle has been a hair stylist in the FDL area for 16 years and currently works at The Classic Cut. Her daughter, Taryn, is a freshman and is involved in soccer, cross country and hockey. Brea is in 4th grade and Reese is in 1st grade. Both enjoy activities offered through the Rec. Department. Michelle enjoys scrapbooking, reading, rummage sales and attending Bible studies at her church, Lighthouse Christian Church.     Michelle shares an early Christmas story with us, “I read one of the Habitat children books  "Raising the roof" to my girls and it was about the little boy who was building his own cardboard house while his parents were helping build a "real habitat home". Well, one of the Christmas gifts to my girls was a big cardboard playhouse that they could decorate. It was the perfect moment to let them open it early! We spent the evening decorating it and discussing our new Habitat opportunity. The girls are now calling it "Their Habitat House". It truly made this dream become more of a reality for us”. Thank you for this once in a lifetime opportunity!
