Committee InformationBoard of DirectorsDevelops and authorizes the programs and policies of the affiliate. The Board is responsible and accountable for periodically evaluating the affiliate’s policies and programs. The Board ensures that the Executive Director properly manages the affairs of Habitat and executes and implements the policies and programs authorized by the Board. The Board must plan for the future of the affiliate by anticipating issues and trends affecting or likely to affect its fiscal stability and overall ability as an organization to achieve its stated purposes. HFH of FDL meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at our office which is now located at 150 S. Brooke Street. Guests are welcome to attend. We ask that you please call ahead to be on the agenda.. 6:00 p.m.For more information contact Kathy at the office (920) 921-6623 or email: habitatfdl@dotnet.com. Church Relations CommitteeSeeks to bring an ever increasing number of churches into the work of the affiliate and it taps into resources of the church—its tradition, teaching, disciplines, language—to help affiliates appreciate, deepen and celebrate its Christian focus. Committee members serve as resources for planning and facilitating devotions, groundbreakings, dedications and special events such as Habitat’s International Day of Prayer (held annually during the third weekend of September). Communication, Fundraising & Development CommitteeContinually seeks to raise and maintain the community’s awareness of Habitat’s work in ways that properly reflect the mission, beliefs and image of Habitat. Fund raising and public relations involve a variety of tasks including public speaking, grant-proposal writing to corporations and foundations, researching donor sources, telephoning prospective donors, and letter writing. The Committee should include members with a variety of skills to match these tasks. Also, the Committee needs persons who can develop and implement creative fund-raising and publicity ideas and persons who can maintain and support the ongoing administrative tasks (i.e., filing and data base/record maintenance, etc.). Family Selection CommitteeDrafts the selection criteria and presents application orientations, screens applications, interviews prospective families, and recommends families to the board for approval for home ownership. The integrity of the Habitat affiliate depends on practicing a fair, objective, nondiscriminatory family selection policy. Family Support CommitteeHelps families break the poverty cycle and become independent by sharing with them the love of God. The Committee welcomes new families into the Habitat family and provides them with a mutual support system, educational opportunities, and a forum for discussions pertaining to Habitat home ownership. This Committee is the primary liaison between the affiliate and the homeowner families. The Committee specifically works with families through sweat equity, homeownership education, the closing process, and adjustment to new responsibilities, and continued partnership. Building / Construction CommitteeIs responsible for both the construction planning and the implementation of the plan. As the number of volunteers increase, the Committee’s focus shifts to establishing contacts in the professional community and providing organization to the construction process. This Committee works with the Site Selection Committee in choosing the area in which to work and the type of construction that best fits both the needs of the local community and Habitat’s goals. This Committee establishes guidelines which deal specifically with the materials, amenities, and design criteria for the work. Volunteer CommitteeCompiles a comprehensive list of the affiliate needs and develops a recruitment program. Recruitment programs involve publicity through various sources. This Committee coordinates the orientation and the training of volunteers. This Committee also coordinates a volunteer appreciation event. Site Selection CommitteeInitially target the area of your community in which the ministry of Habitat will develop and work. Ideally, the target area is where property is readily available at a reasonable cost. Once an area is targeted, the Committee identifies and recommends property for acquisition to the Board. |
