News ArchiveMarian University to Partner with Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County to Raise Awareness of Substandard Housing5/7/2008
Participants will be collecting pledges to partake in this event and these monies will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County. Habitat will be building two houses this summer for two partnering families in need of affordable and basic shelter. The criteria to build a shanty shelter to sleep in for the evening will consist of a limited amount of cardboard and duct tape. The participants may supply more materials themselves that they might have gathered, but can not purchase any special materials to use. Participants will then use whatever materials they have to create a shelter that will hopefully remain stable through the night. The organizing chairs for this year's event are students Jacque Grahn, Heather Hummer, Sara Hummer, and Professor John Morris. Professor Morris and his class have been participating in this event for the last 3 years in hopes of raising funds and awareness to the Habitat for Humanity program. The public is welcome to come and view the Shanty Town shelters and listen to Kathy Strong-Twohig, executive director of Habitat talk about the local affiliate, the two 2008 house builds and plans for the future at 8:00 p.m. at the Marian University outside commons area.
